BACKPACK ID

Bridging languages and memories to foster multiple identities: "Never leave your backpack behind!"

About the project

BACKPACK ID is an innovative intervention for promoting the inclusion of refugee children at school in 4 European countries (Greece and Italy, Germany and Sweden), which are met with acute and very diverse challenges by the ongoing refugee crisis. Informed by these differences, the present approach on social inclusion advances a common account of social inclusion challenges; it sees the social inclusion of refugee children as a function of addressing the needs and perspectives of those children and their families, and local communities and stakeholders, while affirming common European values.

Hi everyone! Here’s Lorenzo!

My name’s Lorenzo Ori and music has always been part of my life since I was a small child.

When I was a baby my parents were singing to me songs to make me sleep, or they were giving me toys which were playing Easter or Christmas songs.

During my childhood, after school, my mother used to bring me to my grandmother’s house, and I was staying there for the entire afternoon. In her house, I used to watch my favourites cartoons: ‘Sam the firefighter’, ‘Doraemon’, ‘Detective Conan’, ‘Pimpa’, and I knew by heart all the themes!

Apart from the cartoon themes and the Juventus hymn, I did not listen to music and so I didn’t have a favourite singer. I was listening to music, for just few times, for example when I was switching on the TV, when I was invited to a birthday party or when I was on holiday on the beach and I was dancing with other children.

Now, everything has changed. I’ve discovered many different types of music and it happens to me to listen to it often and often: in shopping malls, streets, public places. There are also new apps to listen to it by smartphone.

My favourite song will always be the theme from ‘Detective Conan’, because it reminds me of my childhood and of happy moments.
