BACKPACK ID

Bridging languages and memories to foster multiple identities: "Never leave your backpack behind!"

About the project

BACKPACK ID is an innovative intervention for promoting the inclusion of refugee children at school in 4 European countries (Greece and Italy, Germany and Sweden), which are met with acute and very diverse challenges by the ongoing refugee crisis. Informed by these differences, the present approach on social inclusion advances a common account of social inclusion challenges; it sees the social inclusion of refugee children as a function of addressing the needs and perspectives of those children and their families, and local communities and stakeholders, while affirming common European values.

Marina, the story of life
Marina, the story of life

My name is Marina, I am 9 years old and I was born on the 19/07/2009. My name comes from the Latin word “marinus” which means “ocean”. I have two older sisters. My parents and grandparents are from the Soviet Union. I am from Greece, that’s where I was born. I like Greece because of its very pretty islands and the ocean. That’s why blue is my favourite colour.

When I was 3 years old we moved to Germany. Learning the German language was easy for me and I did it quickly. At the age of 6 I attended a German-Greek Primary School, Homer Primary School, and when we moved I had to change school and now I am attending “Athene Primary School”. In all of this time I have met many friends. With my friends we often play catch, hide and seek or ‘Kontakto’.

In my leisure time, I enjoy drawing and listening to music. My favourite instrument is the guitar and one of my goals is to learn playing the guitar. Every Monday after school I go to drama and it’s a lot of fun. In the evening, my friend and I go to a sports club and on Thursdays I sing in a choir. Our teacher is very nice and he sings beautifully and teaches us many beautiful songs. On Saturdays I go dancing. That’s where we learn Greek dances. I enjoy spending time with my friends there and always learning something new.

I like nature and different plants for example roses. Besides, I like animals. My favourite animal is a peacock. I also like feeding animals in zoos. My dream job is to be a vet, so I can care for sick animals.
