BACKPACK ID

Bridging languages and memories to foster multiple identities: "Never leave your backpack behind!"

About the project

BACKPACK ID is an innovative intervention for promoting the inclusion of refugee children at school in 4 European countries (Greece and Italy, Germany and Sweden), which are met with acute and very diverse challenges by the ongoing refugee crisis. Informed by these differences, the present approach on social inclusion advances a common account of social inclusion challenges; it sees the social inclusion of refugee children as a function of addressing the needs and perspectives of those children and their families, and local communities and stakeholders, while affirming common European values.

There is no difference between me and others, some say that my father is dead and some say that I don´t have any father. It doesn´t matter… I haven´t had my father in my life because of his addict and abuse that affected everyone in the family. For four years ago my parents decided to get divorced and after that my life became much harder. I studied and in the same time worked as a tailor in the evenings. My mother worked as a cleaning lady and that was how the family was provided for.

Mohannad's personal story

It was really hard but I learned many things and I´ve got a bigger understanding for people who has a hard time. This made us to decide to seek help from the UN and after a couple of years we moved to Sweden.

Mohannad's personal story

I worked to sew in Iran, my mom worked as a cleaner and my dad was a mechanic. We moved for our financial situation was not good. My mom divorced from my father because of this we went to Sweden. I was worried about all questions in Iran and some people were injured that hurt me. It was really hard to manage to pay the rent every month and we had 4 years without dad and we had no head to take care of us. It is very cold weather. Here are mysterious sour foods. We brought albums and memories of friends and relatives.
