Bridging languages and memories to foster multiple identities: "Never leave your backpack behind!"

About the project

BACKPACK ID is an innovative intervention for promoting the inclusion of refugee children at school in 4 European countries (Greece and Italy, Germany and Sweden), which are met with acute and very diverse challenges by the ongoing refugee crisis. Informed by these differences, the present approach on social inclusion advances a common account of social inclusion challenges; it sees the social inclusion of refugee children as a function of addressing the needs and perspectives of those children and their families, and local communities and stakeholders, while affirming common European values.

The star symbolises me. Its previous positions correspond to those who were the star before me. The older the more faint. The path followed by the star is the path followed by my people, the places that directly or indirectly relate to my creation. The star dust dispersed along the course of the star stands for the people before me, who enabled my existence. These are the pieces that made me, but over time I separated myself from them. The glowing trail of the star symbolises history. Every fact and every event, whether known to me or not, has left its mark, its light. Black lines are potential sad events.

The black background stands for my future self and the next stars. It is the future infinity, the future path and the future glowing trail. It is what will come after me.
