- The smells of my country, specifically the food
- My love for my grandparents
- The move of my great grandparents to India
- Traditions, customs and rituals
- The bravery of my great grandparents
- My cousins and their love for me
- My parents’ identity
- My grandparents’ efforts to build their house
What makes me Sikh:
- The teachings of my god
- My past
- The five Ks (sword, metal bracelet, comb, garment, uncut hair)
- My heart
- My patience
- My interest in my religion
- My saying “No” to changing my religion
- The firm stance of the gods towards the people who resisted
- My firm stance
- The teachings of my family
When people ask me "Are you more Indian or Sikh?" I answer “I am Greek”. Fortunately, I have got Greek citizenship and I am past all that. Now, if someone asks me "Since you are Indian, why are you Sikh and not Hindu?", then I would answer, "I am Greek, I have nothing to do with this". So, I am through with the confusion.
