My self presentation through music
Hi everyone! It’s Rossella and I want to introduce myself through music. Music has always been a part of me: it helped me suffering less in difficult moments, it made me happier and more enthousiast in happy moments.
One of the most relevant songs of my life is “Who’s lovin’ you” by Jackson 5. I’ve heard it for the first time when I met my best friend, on holiday, near the sea, and it’s one of the things which made us really close: it symbolizes our friendship, which has to deal with a big geographical distance.
It is so important because we are far from each other and this song allows us to feel closer. In fact, every time I miss her, I listen to this song, feeling strong emotions as if it was the first time I’ve listened to it. I was charmed by its rhythm and by its words from the first time I’ve heard it, even if I was too young to understand English. I was really in love with this song, but last year I discovered to be more and fonder of it: “Who’s lovin’ you” was the favourite song of my idol, who sang it when he was 13 in a TV program. So, this song doesn’t represent only the relationship between me and my best friend, but it is also a link to my idol.
When I was attending the primary school, my music idol was ‘Violetta’, and I told my parents to bring me to one of her concerts. I knew by heart all her songs in Italian and in Spanish and I used to sing them loud even if my sister was bothered, because she hated them!
I also used to sing Violetta’s songs to console myself when I was victim of bullying. When the TV series ended, I started to listen to many different types of music. There are now many songs which represent me, such as “In my blood” by Shawn Mendes. In that song the singer is confused and he feels alone; he says that sometimes he feels like going away and leaving everything but he can’t. I think this song represents me because sometimes I feel alone even if I’m surrounded by people. Me too, sometimes I feel like quitting everything and going elsewhere, but I can’t do it, it would not be in my nature, because I believe we have to be strong and face every problem.
Another song is “Non ridere di me” (Don’t laugh about me) by Thomas. In the refrain he says he cannot leave without a person and that only with that person he feels good. The person he talks about, for me is not only one person but all the people I love.
I try now to give a definition of music: music is being able to express feelings and identity, it is meeting other people, it is being ourselves.
